Please join us for an evening with poet Kate Rogers for a discussion about the principles of editing poetry. She will illustrate the process using before and after examples from poems by W.B. Yeats, as well as sharing early and finished examples of her own published poems. WiPS member Susan Lavender will take part in the evening to give voice to the poetry of Yeats.
Kate will offer tips on creating fresh and original metaphors, avoiding cliché, editing poetry for brevity and avoiding the grammar of prose. The session will include an editing activity for the audience, with time to share work at the end of the evening.
Kate Rogers’ new poetry collection, Out of Place, will be published by Toronto-based
Aeolus House in the summer of 2017. She lectures in literature and media studies
at the Community College of City University in Hong Kong.
